LACTATION EXPERIENCES
As a student volunteer and lactating member of the Binational Breastfeeding Coalition (January 2018 - December 2022), I was tasked with collecting regional breastfeeding data by screening a sum of 56 attendees at the Big Latch 2019. Further knowledge on Breastfeeding and Mental Health was obtained through attendance of a day long seminar with Kendall-Tackett's PhD. As a member of the Texas Perinatal Association, I was able to train on use of human milk products by attending Prolacta-Growth and Nutrition's 2 day NICU conference. My personal experiences with lactation led me to pursue certification through UCSD's Extension program. As part of the 45 hour CLEC program, I was able to shadow lactation educator Rachel Curtis and Elizabeth Berkley MPH IBCLC. The culmination of the course was the ability to develop my own curriculum for a lactation education course. Four additional medical/healthcare pre-requisites were required for this program, further adding to my lactation related acumen. I was certificated as a CLEC May of 2022 by this program.
